LEPAS Super Hybrid Powertrain
Plug-In Hybrid Technology Built for the Real World
The LEPAS Super Hybrid is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain that pairs a turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor and a high-capacity battery. It prioritises electric drive for everyday journeys, while the petrol engine provides seamless support and extended range when you need it.
How the LEPAS Super Hybrid Works
The LEPAS Super Hybrid powertrain is built around an electric-first approach to driving. It pairs a turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor and a high-capacity battery, managing its own energy continuously so the transition between power sources is always smooth and uninterrupted.
Zero Range Anxiety
The battery is constantly replenished by the petrol engine and through regenerative braking as you drive. There is no need to plan your journey around charging points or worry about running out of charge.
Electric First
The car runs in EV mode for everyday local journeys. When the battery runs low, the turbocharged petrol engine steps in seamlessly, acting as a generator to recharge the battery or driving the wheels directly depending on what the situation demands.
Energy Regeneration
Energy that would otherwise be lost during braking is captured and fed back into the battery. This happens automatically every time you slow down, helping to extend your range without any extra effort on your part.
A More Enjoyable Drive
The electric motor supports the petrol engine during high-demand moments, such as pulling away at a junction or overtaking. This reduces fuel consumption and gives the car a more immediate, responsive feel from behind the wheel.
Why the LEPAS Super Hybrid
The Best of Both Worlds
Electric power covers most daily commutes and local journeys. When you need to go further, the petrol engine takes over so there is no need to stop or plan around charging. You get the efficiency of electric driving and the range confidence of petrol in one powertrain.
Power on Demand
The electric motor delivers instant torque from a standstill for smooth, responsive acceleration. At higher speeds and during sustained driving, the petrol engine provides additional power. The two work together to give you the performance you need, when you need it.
Smart Savings
Running on electric power for shorter journeys keeps fuel costs down and reduces local emissions. Lower Benefit-in-Kind tax rates for PHEVs also make the LEPAS Super Hybrid a cost-effective option for business drivers.
No Obligation to Plug In
Plugging in extends your electric-only range, but it is not required. The petrol engine and regenerative braking keep the battery topped up as you drive. Fill up with petrol as normal and the powertrain manages the rest.
Smooth and Refined
Electric drive at lower speeds means quieter pull-aways and a calmer cabin experience. The transition between electric and petrol power happens seamlessly in the background, so the drive always feels consistent and composed.
The LEPAS L8
The LEPAS L8 is the first model in the UK to feature the LEPAS Super Hybrid powertrain. It is a large five-seat SUV built on the LEX platform with a 2,800mm wheelbase, available in two trim levels: Essence from £34,900 and Elevate from £37,900.
Powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission and an 18.4kWh battery, the L8 delivers up to 56 miles of pure electric range, up to 745 miles combined range, and CO2 emissions of just 21g/km, qualifying it to drive free of charge in London's ULEZ.
The battery can be DC fast charged from 30% to 80% in as little as 20 minutes.
